Interview with the CEO of Zatec Rwanda

Moise, Zatec established a subsidiary in Rwanda last November. Since then, you have been the Managing Director and manage Zatec's activities in Rwanda. What exciting things have happened since then?
Zatec Rwanda has experienced an exponential growth, not only in recruiting young top talents on our team but also contributed both directly and indirectly in creating jobs while continuing to provide knowledge and tools to our students to facilitate in their studies and practices.

Rwanda is increasingly becoming a digital hotspot in East Africa. What can you tell us about it?
Rwanda continues to be one of the fastest growing African countries in technology, business among other things and there are several paths for growth particularly in the ICT sector – from e-commerce and e-services, mobile technologies, applications development and automation to becoming a regional center for the training top-quality young professionals.

You work closely with your colleagues in South Africa and Germany. What is your experience like?
It has been an enjoyable but quite daring new experience, working with a very vibrant and committed team with a diversity of skills and knowledge. There is so much to do, so much to learn from everyone, and our common vision of what we are building and the future gives me confidence that we are on the right track.

In addition to building a TechHub, you also focus on training software developers. How does such a training program work?
Our accelerator program aims to equip fresh graduates with strong technical skills in both the web and mobile development sector to guarantee their rightful spot on this ever-evolving technology market. There’s a clear need for more tech workforce, not to mention the possibility of working remotely and our goal is to enable and provide top talents.

With your Tech Hub at Zatec, you work primarily for European clients. Why is Rwanda an advantage for European tech companies?
Rwanda’s tech ecosystem perfectly captures the zeitgeist of 1970’s Silicon Valley. The pandemic has accelerated the demand for more digital solutions, and Rwanda is well positioned to satisfy this need with professional developers and the right infrastructure to create more tech opportunities, even offer a strategic basepoint of operations for the African continent.

What are your goals as Managing Director for Zatec Rwanda?
My goal is to direct and control our business operations, liaise with both local and international stakeholders to drive strategic growth.
